About Riga

Since ancient times Latvia has been at the crossroads between East and West, North and South. This is why Riga is such a multi-cultured city, where the traditions of the region have merged, creating a unique environment, the like of which is not to be found anywhere else in the world.

This is why we are so pleased and honoured to have the chance, as hosts of the World Women's Curling Championship 2013, to add curling to this wonderful fusion.

We hope that you will join us in Riga for the curling but you will leave having enjoyed so much more!

Here are a few very important things about Riga:

  • It is the capital of Latvia so you are always welcome here
  • It hosts the largest airport in the Baltic countries with direct connections to over 80 destinations in 30 countries so getting here will be a breeze www.riga-airport.com
  • It is renown for its beautiful Art Nouveau/Jugendstil architecture, 19th century wooden architecture and the historical city centre is a UNESCO World Heritage Site so there is plenty of beauty to see
  • It has a developed and convenient public transport system so getting around will be easy
